The 176 kidnap victims of Woro in Kaiama local government, Kwara State, have regained freedom.

 

The victims, mainly women and children were released on Wednesday after six months in captivity.

 

The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, confirmed the report, appreciating the security operatives.

 

According to a statement issued yesterday, Abdullateef commended the efforts of the security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the operation.

 

He also expressed the state government’s appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and security personnel for their joint roles in securing the victims’ freedom.

 

“The Kwara State Government is pleased to announce that security forces have rescued the people who were kidnapped from Woro community in Kwara North.

 

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the security agencies and everyone who contributed to this successful operation. We are grateful,” he said.

 

Recall that the abduction attracted national attention in February after a video surfaced showing dozens of women and children held by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

 

In the footage, the captives, including women carrying infants, identified Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area as the place where they were abducted.

 

The video also showed scores of women and children in worn clothing, with several of the children appearing visibly malnourished.
