President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday in Osogbo flagged off N114,854,477,607.93 Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road projects, with a completion period of 24 months, awarded to Messi Peculiar Concern Limited.

 

Similarly, he also flagged off the reconstruction of Gbongan-Osogbo road project, which was awarded at the cost of N101,806,515,825.09 to Messrs Trucrete Solutions Limited, expected to be completed within 24 months.

 

Speaking during the flag off, Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, hinted that the road projects marked a clear commitment, to connect people, unlock opportunities, and restore confidence in public infrastructure.

 

According to him, ‘these projects are very critical component of the Federal Government’s road infrastructure development programme aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities along the corridor to enable farmers move goods faster, children get to school more safely.”

 

Tinubu further explained that Osogbo – Iwo – Ibadan road which is approximately 82km is in terrible condition, originating from Dele Yes-Sir Roundabout, Osogbo, traversing various agricultural belt of Osun and Oyo States, serving as a.shortest route from Osogbo to Ibadan.

 

He added that major towns and villages along the road include Osogbo, Ara, Awo, Ede, Telemu, Iwo, Laagun and Ibadan.

 

“The Gbongan – Osogbo Road is approximately 44km by 2 (88km).originates from old garage roundabout in Osogbo and traverses major towns like Owode Ede, Akoda Ede, Sekona, Oogi, Odeomu later terminates at Gbongan on Ife – Ibadan Expressway-a major road that links Osogbo, Ikirun,Offa and Ilorin in Kwara State, “Tinubu remarked.

 

He recalled that the projects approved by Federal Executive Council would to ease the stress of the road users and improve the economic life of the host communities..

 

The scope of works for the projects includes but not limited to: Site clearance, earthworks and removal of unsuitable materials; provision of grave filter (boulders) materials for subsoil drains and fresh river sand; provision of wet crushed rock (stone base) on both carriageway and shoulders, among others.

 

However, in their separate remarks during the flag off, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo and the lawmaker, representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi urged the people to vote massively the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 gubernatorial poll, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
