A Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarewaju, yesterday allege that Former President Olusegun Obasanjo does not want his Vice President Atiku Abubakar to become president because he might lead the country better than him.
He equally challenged what he described as Obasanjo’s conviction that no other leader could equal his accomplishments and govern Nigeria more effectively.
Olarewaju made the disclosure following a renewed feud between the two political leaders on Atiku’s bid to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Obasanjo had reignited the long- standing feud during an interview, describing his decision to choose Atiku as his running mate as his “biggest political mistake” and also alleged that the former Vice President was involved in an attempt to impeach him in 2003.
However, Atiku through his media Aide dismissed the allegations, saying that they were part of what he described as the former president’s long-standing campaign of ” lies, deficit and historical distortion.”
But, Speaking on Monday during an interview on Eagle 102.5 FM, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Olarewaju who alleged that the dispute between two political leaders was deeply rooted in politics, said that despite the differences, Atiku still hold the former president in high esteem as his boss.
He said that despite the former president’s opposition to Atiku’s presidential bid , the supporters of the former vice president remained determined to pursue his political ambition.
“The relationship between the former President Obasanjo and Atiku, in my view as a Nigerian who witnessed the administration and the post-administration, is the fact that they do not seem to have a personal issue. It is clear from how Atiku holds Obasanjo in high esteem.
“The issue between them is political and, for reasons best known to Obasanjo, it is very clear and obvious that he does not want Atiku Abubakar to ever be President of the Federal Republic.”
“I think another thing that has become very clear is his instability about the opinion that Obasanjo holds, that nobody can meet up with his achievement and nobody can govern Nigeria better than him,” Olarewaju added.
