The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the killing of an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander, Abu Khalid Al-Muhajir, and eight other terrorist fighters in a drone strike at the fringes of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
   
In a statement yesterday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the strike was carried out early yesterday, adding that Al Muhajir was reportedly responsible for providing security escorts for senior ISWAP members in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
   
He explained that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led air operations, particularly in the integration of persistent surveillance with precision strike capabilities in the Northeast region of the country.
   
In a similar development, the Nigerian Army’s COAS Intervention Battalion 3 under 8 Division, the Mobile Police Force and the Air Component of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA reportedly had a fierce battle with a large group of armed bandits estimated at about 240, along the Zamfara-Kebbi state border.

The bandits reportedly emerged from the Sangeko Gap in Zamfara State before advancing towards Makuku town in Kebbi State. Security sources said the armed group was moving on motorcycles, divided into three formations as it advanced into the area.
  
Confirming the development, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said further details would be provided after the operation.
   
The development has heightened tension in communities around the border, with some residents reportedly fleeing their homes and moving to safer locations as security forces intensify efforts to contain the attackers.
   
The movement of so many armed terrorists has raised fresh security concerns among residents of the communities adjoining the area.
