Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber, Babatunde Olasunkanmi, over allege motorcycle theft along Orgi Block Area, Otele.

The suspect was arrested on August 3, 2026 at about 0048hrs.

He was arrested following a disress call received by operatives at Itele Division from a motorcyclist that his bike was stolen from him at gun point by two passengers he picked at Three Crown Bus stop.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

Babaseyi said that upon the disress call, the operatives immediately mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspect who was caught pointing a pistol at the victim, while his accomplice escaped with the victim’s red Bajaj motorcycle.

He mentioned exhibits recovered from the suspect to include: one locally fabricated cut-to-size double-barrel pistol(used to robbed the victim) charms, one Tecno Android phone and one UBA ATM card.

The Police Spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, while the suspect and exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation.

In a related development, operatives of the Sakura Division of the Ogun State Police Command have recovered a submachine gun and 75 rounds of live ammunition concealed in a wardrobe.

Babaseyi said that the operatives received information about the firearms on August 5, 2026 at about 1300hrs.

He said explained that the concealed firearm and ammunition were discovered in the wardrobe while clearing a rented apartment previously occupied by a deceased landlord.

The Police Spokesperson said upon the receipt of the information, the personnel immediately swung into action and secured the location of the apartment where they recovered one English Submachine Gun (SMG) rifle and seventy-five (75) rounds of live ammunition from the wardrobe.

He added that the recovered exhibits have been secured and will be subjected to ballistic examination by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, while investigation to confirm how the firearm and ammunition were concealed at the location continues.
