Lagos backs Miss Surulere heritage pageant

The 2026 Miss Surulere Heritage Pageant is receiving fresh backing from the Lagos State Government as organisers and contestants seek stronger support for a programme focused on culture, youth development and the promotion of Surulere’s heritage.

The pageant delegation visited the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe where they discussed the role of the competition in giving young girls a platform beyond beauty and entertainment.

Aregbe commended the organisers for using the pageant to promote culture, leadership and community development among young girls in Surulere, while reaffirming the state government’s support for initiatives that empower young people and showcase Lagos’ cultural identity.

“Initiatives like this are important because they give our young girls a platform to showcase not just beauty, but culture, leadership and purpose. I commend the organisers for their vision, and I will continue to support programmes that build the future of our girls and celebrate the heritage of Surulere,” Mr. Aregbe stated.

He also encouraged the contestants to represent Surulere positively as they prepare for the grand finale, scheduled for Friday, August 14, when the winners of the maiden edition will be crowned.

The visiting delegation was led by the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture to Surulere Local Government, Hon. Fuwad Odofin, who expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture for their support.

Show Producer, Mr. Adebayo Adegbe, said the pageant was created around the theme, “Pride of Surulere, Heritage of Lagos, Future of Our Girls,” with activities designed to develop the contestants beyond the pageant stage.

According to him, the programme features leadership training, fashion activities and cultural displays, among other engagements aimed at celebrating the heritage of Surulere while highlighting the potential of young girls.
