PanAfrican Capital Foundation (PAC Foundation) has commissioned a solar-powered borehole with an integrated water treatment system for residents of Cele Nica Community, Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to clean water in underserved communities.

Implemented under the Foundation’s Greenwell Initiative, the project addresses one of the community’s most pressing needs—access to safe and affordable water.

For years, residents have relied on groundwater that is often unsafe for drinking, cooking and washing due to metallic contaminants and other impurities, forcing many households to spend a significant portion of their income on purchasing water.

The newly commissioned facility features a water treatment system that purifies the water before it is stored in an elevated tank for distribution. Powered entirely by solar energy, the borehole provides a reliable, environmentally sustainable and cost-effective source of potable water for the community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Secretary of PAC Foundation, Omolola Ojo, said, “Access to clean water is fundamental to human health, dignity and economic well-being. This project is more than a borehole—it is an investment in healthier families, improved livelihoods and a more resilient community.

“By providing safe water at no cost to residents, we are helping to reduce household expenses while improving health outcomes.”

She said the project is expected to reduce residents’ dependence on unsafe water sources, lower the incidence of water-related illnesses and ease the financial burden of buying water.

“The Cele Nica borehole installation is the second community borehole delivered by PAC Foundation in Lagos State and this underscores our commitment to expanding access to clean water and strengthening community resilience,” Ojo said.

Ojo stated that through strategic partnerships and community-focused interventions, PAC Foundation would continue to advance sustainable development in Nigeria across education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Community leaders and residents described the intervention as timely and transformative and pledged to support the maintenance of the facility.
