Residents of Agbor, Ughelli and other communities across Delta State have welcomed the ongoing infrastructure projects being executed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc., expressing optimism that the developments will ease transportation, boost commerce and stimulate economic growth across the state.

The reactions followed continued progress on flyover projects in Agbor and Ughelli, as well as the commencement of construction on the strategic Warri Ring Road, a major transport corridor expected to improve connectivity and support industrial development in the Niger Delta.

For residents and business owners in the affected communities, the projects represent more than road construction.

They are seen as investments that could reduce traffic congestion, improve mobility and make Delta State more attractive to businesses and investors.

In Agbor, residents said the flyover project would complement the town’s growing commercial activities by making movement easier for commuters, traders and other road users.

An Agbor-based entrepreneur, Chukwudi Nwosu, described good road infrastructure as essential to sustainable economic development.

“Infrastructure is the foundation of economic growth. These projects will make it easier for businesses to operate, attract investors and open new opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs across the state,” he said.

Residents of Ughelli also expressed enthusiasm over the Otovwodo Flyover project, describing it as a long-term investment that could transform transportation and economic activities in the area.

The ongoing Warri Ring Road project, alongside the flyover developments, is expected to improve transportation efficiency, facilitate industrial expansion and strengthen trade links across Delta State.

Beyond easing traffic, stakeholders said the projects could create employment opportunities during and after construction. Industry analysts noted that large-scale road and bridge projects typically generate direct and indirect jobs in engineering, construction, logistics, equipment operations, security, material supply, hospitality and other support services.

The Warri/Effurun Roads and Flyovers Project includes extensive road expansion, three major flyovers, drainage systems and other supporting infrastructure, requiring a substantial workforce across several locations.

Economic experts also believe the long-term impact could extend beyond the construction phase, as improved road networks could attract investment in manufacturing, real estate, agriculture, commerce and logistics.

A Warri businessman, Efe Edewor, said better transportation networks could significantly improve business performance and productivity across the state.

“The Ring Road and flyovers across Delta State will not only improve mobility but also drive commerce and industrial growth.

“When transportation becomes more efficient, businesses save costs, investments increase and local economies become stronger,” he said.

Despite recent heavy rainfall across the state, Julius Berger workers continued construction activities on the Warri Ring Road and the flyover projects in Ughelli and Agbor over the weekend, signalling the company’s commitment to meeting project timelines.

Providing an update on the Ring Road, the Project Manager, EmThomas Haug, confirmed that construction had commenced on the first 11-kilometre section.

“Work has begun on the first 11 kilometres of the Ring Road project, and we are on it,” Haug said.
He also disclosed that the company had received letters of substantial completion from the Delta State Government for the DSC, Enerhen and PTI flyovers.

“All is going on well. We are completing the jobs, and it is good to see the progress being made with dedicated workers from Effurun to Ughelli to Agbor,” he said.

With construction advancing across several locations, residents of the communities hosting the projects expressed confidence that the completed infrastructure would serve as a catalyst for long-term economic transformation.

They said the projects could strengthen Delta State’s position as a major hub for trade, logistics and investment while improving the quality of transportation and supporting sustainable development across the Niger Delta.
