The Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Saleh Hodi Jibir, has resigned as a member representing Disina Constituency to contest the forthcoming Shira local government chairmanship election.

The resignation was announced by the Speaker of the Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, during Wednesday’s plenary in Bauchi.

The Speaker said the House had received a letter from Jibir formally notifying it of his decision to resign his seat as the representative of Disina Constituency.

He explained that Jibir was elected in 2019, and had served as a member of the House since then.

According to the Speaker, the resignation followed the decision of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) to nominate Jibir as its candidate for the Shira Local Government chairmanship election.

In his farewell remarks, Hon. Jibir thanked the Speaker and members of the House for their cooperation, guidance and support throughout his tenure.

He also expressed appreciation to the people of Disina Constituency and stakeholders in Shira local government for their confidence in him and for choosing him as the party’s chairmanship candidate.

Jibir said his experience in the House had been memorable, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his constituents and contribute to the development of the state.

He also appreciated the Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed and Shira stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, promising that, if elected chairman, he would work hard to surpass their expectations.

Following his resignation, the Speaker also informed the House that it had received a letter from the APM, through the Clerk, nominating Hon. Auwal Hassan Yana, representing Shira Constituency, as the new Majority Leader.

The letter stated that the nomination was made after a meeting of the party’s Executive Council to replace Jibir, who resigned to contest the Shira Local Government chairmanship election.

The Speaker described Jibir as a colleague with whom he had served both in the 9th and 10th Assemblies, saying their relationship had gone beyond that of colleagues to that of family.

He said members had treated one another like biological brothers and expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Majority Leader for his contributions to the House.

Other lawmakers also commended Jibir, describing him as a role model whose patience, dedication and selflessness had earned him their respect and admiration.

They wished him success in the forthcoming chairmanship election and urged the new Majority Leader to emulate the virtues, legacy and leadership qualities demonstrated by his predecessor.

In his acceptance speech, the new Majority Leader, Hon. Auwal Hassan Yana, thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity and expressed appreciation to the stakeholders and the governor for finding him worthy of serving as one of the principal officers of the Assembly.

Hassan said his emergence was not because he was better than other members, but by the will of Allah, who gives power to whom He wishes and takes it away whenever He wills.

He solicited the guidance, advice, correction and support of his colleagues, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.

The new Majority Leader also pledged to emulate Jibir, particularly in maintaining good relationships, carrying out his responsibilities and handling issues before the House.

The House subsequently approved Jibir’s resignation as member representing Disina Constituency and confirmed Auwal Hassan Yana as the new Majority Leader.
