…Commends Government Over Security, N177b Highway Project

The people of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, led by the Council Chairman, Dr Salisu Isah have expressed their support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani in the coming 2027 polls, while commending them for the development, security and welfare of the citizens in the area.

The support and commendation by the Birnin Gwari indigenes, were expressed in a statement by the Council Chairman, Dr. Salihu Isah, saying that “the official flag-off of the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, valued at ₦177 billion, marks a defining moment in the history of our Local Government”.

According to Isah, “it is a moment of thanksgiving to Almighty Allah and a moment of renewed hope for generations of our people who have long prayed and waited to see this vital road restored”, stressing that “for Birnin Gwari, this is not simply a road project; It is the restoration of an economic lifeline”.

He said that the Birnin Gwari highway which is also a gateway to Lagos, ” is one of the most important corridors linking Northern Nigeria with the South and is relied upon daily by thousands of farmers, traders, transporters, students, civil servants, artisans and other citizens”.

Noting that the Its reconstruction will improve security, facilitate agriculture and commerce, create employment, reduce transportation difficulties and strengthen the movement of people and goods across the region, the Council Chairman remarked, “Mr President, history remembers leaders not only for the promises they make, but for the promises they fulfil”.

“Your visit to Birnin Gwari before assuming office remains fresh in our memory. You travelled by road, saw the condition of the highway for yourself and witnessed the difficulties confronting our people. You gave your word that the Federal Government would address the security challenges affecting Birnin Gwari and would also attend to the deplorable condition of the KKaaduna-Birnin Gwari Road”, he added.

Isah said : “today, by the grace of Almighty Allah, we are witnessing the fulfilment of those commitments.The improvement in security in our communities has already brought renewed hope to our people, encouraged the return of farmers to their farms and created a more conducive environment for economic activity. The commencement of this road reconstruction now adds another major pillar to the recovery and development of our Local Government”.

He continued: “on behalf of the people of Birnin Gwari, I say to Mr President: thank you. We sincerely appreciate your concern, your compassion and your commitment to our people. This gesture will remain in our collective memory, and generations yet unborn will remember the leadership that brought this long-awaited project into reality. ”

The Birnin Gwari Council boss stressed further, “we equally wish to place on record our profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, for his sustained attention to Birnin Gwari and his persistent efforts towards securing meaningful development for our people. Governor Uba Sani has demonstrated that the development of Birnin Gwari is part of the wider development agenda of Kaduna State. His administration has supported a number of important interventions in the Local Government, and we consider it necessary to acknowledge them publicly.”

Besides, he noted, “the ongoing reconstruction of the 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road is one such intervention. The project is progressing to an advanced stage and, importantly, is being reconstructed to a standard that gives our people renewed confidence in its long-term value. We appreciate the Governor for ensuring that this important route receives serious attention.We also appreciate the general renovation of the Jibril Mai Gwari Memorial Hospital which is an important investment in the health and wellbeing of our people.”

He added that “for a community that has endured considerable challenges, improving the condition of our healthcare facilities is not a luxury but a necessity.We further commend the Kaduna State Government for the construction of a modern abattoir and veterinary clinic in Birnin Gwari. This intervention will improve public health, support livestock production and strengthen the economic activities of our butchers, livestock owners and related businesses.These interventions demonstrate what can be achieved when government listens to communities and responds to their needs.”

” We therefore thank Governor Uba Sani for his continued support and pray that Almighty Allah will strengthen him to do even more for the people of Kaduna State”, Isah stressed .

He also pointed out, “while expressing our appreciation, we respectfully believe that gratitude and constructive advocacy should go together. Birnin Gwari has enormous potential, and the restoration of peace and infrastructure provides an opportunity to address some of the longstanding gaps that have held our communities back. First, we respectfully appeal for the completion of the Gwargwaje-Zaria Road through Farin Ruwa to Saulawa, which commenced in 2011 but was subsequently abandoned.”

” We appeal to the Federal and Kaduna State Governments to revisit this project and bring it to completion. Its completion will open up communities, strengthen commerce and provide another important connection for our people.Second, we appeal for the reconnection of communities in the eastern and western parts of Birnin Gwari to the national electricity grid”, he said .

According to him, “at present, communities in nine of the eleven wards remain without reliable connection, largely as a consequence of the security challenges that disrupted existing electricity infrastructure. As security improves, reconnecting these communities must become a development priority. Electricity is essential to education, healthcare, agriculture, small businesses, communication and modern economic life.”

“We call for renewed and sustained investment in education and healthcare. Years of insecurity and underdevelopment have taken a heavy toll on these two critical sectors. We therefore appeal to the Federal Government, the Kaduna State Government, development agencies and international partners to support a comprehensive programme for the rehabilitation, upgrading and expansion of educational and healthcare infrastructure in Birnin Gwari”, he stressed.
