Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani has reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to freedom of the Press, saying that it engenders the promotion of peace and overall development in any society.

Besides, According to a statement by the State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, Kaduna State joined the global community in commemorating World Press Freedom Day 2026, themed “Shaping a Future at Peace,” with global reflections anchored by the UNESCO conference in Lusaka, Zambia.

He said, this year’s theme underscores the vital role of a free, responsible, and independent media in advancing peace, safeguarding human rights, and promoting sustainable development, particularly in the face of growing threats to free expression and the integrity of information.

Maiyaki remarked, “in Nigeria, and in Kaduna State in particular, the media remains a cornerstone of democratic governance—informing citizens, shaping public discourse, and strengthening accountability”.

He added, “the administration of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, continues to uphold and protect the constitutional guarantee of press freedom, fostering an enabling environment for journalists to operate responsibly and without undue interference.”

The Commissioner for Informationer stressed,  “Governor Sani’s commitment to press freedom reflects a firm belief that a free, responsible, and credible media is indispensable to peace, good governance, and democratic stability, as well as an informed and engaged society.”

He further noted that at a time when misinformation and disinformation threaten public trust, social cohesion, and national security, the role of ethical, accurate, and responsible journalism has never been more critical.

“As misinformation and disinformation threaten public trust and national cohesion, ethical, accurate, and professional journalism remains non-negotiable, and Kaduna State will continue to protect journalists while promoting integrity and accountability in the media space,” Maiyaki added.

As the global community calls for stronger protection of journalists and the preservation of civic space, Kaduna State reaffirms the importance of safeguarding media practitioners while promoting professionalism, verification, and adherence to ethical standards, he said.

According to Maiyaki, “the Ministry of Information and Culture will continue to deepen collaboration with media stakeholders, support capacity building, and advance initiatives that counter misinformation while strengthening the credibility of journalism.”

He added, “as we mark this important day, all stakeholders are urged to uphold the values of truth, responsibility, and mutual respect—essential foundations for a peaceful, informed, and democratic society”.
