Supporters of former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, in Taraba state, are expressing growing frustration over the prolonged silence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership on their complaints arising from the party’s governorship primary.

The grievances have reportedly lingered despite expectations that the party leadership would address petitions and concerns raised by members following the exercise.

Rather than defecting from the APC or launching an open rebellion, Sambo’s decision to remain in the party despite the unresolved issues is said to have created a difficult situation for the party leadership.

Sources close to the former minister said his decision to stay in the APC has unsettled expectations within some quarters of the party that he and his supporters would eventually leave the platform.

Political observers also noted that Sambo’s continued membership of the APC makes it difficult for the party to dismiss his supporters as disgruntled defectors.

The development has heightened speculation over the recent visit of the APC National Chairman, Proféssor Nentawe Yilwatda, to Taraba, where he celebrated his birthday and held engagements with party stakeholders as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.

Sambo had recently dismissed rumours of his planned exit from the APC, maintaining his position as one of the founding pillars of the party.

His decision to remain within the APC is believed to have strengthened his camp’s internal leverage, putting pressure on the party leadership to either formally address the outstanding primary complaints or risk entering the election season with deeper divisions.

Some party loyalists have warned that failure to resolve internal electoral disputes could undermine the APC’s democratic credentials and weaken its chances of presenting a united front in Taraba.

However, the Taraba state  chapter of the APC through its Publicity Secretary, Mr Aaron Artimas, said the party was determined to achieve unity ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Artimas said the party’s commitment to reconciliation informed the inauguration of reconciliation committees across the three senatorial zones on Monday.

He urged all aggrieved members to embrace dialogue and work with the party leadership to resolve their differences.

According to him, the objective is to ensure that the APC approaches the upcoming elections as one family.
