A cabin crew member of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA), Uche Ogbuagu, has been commended for demonstrating exceptional professionalism and composure while handling an unruly passenger during a recent flight.
The commendation was contained in a letter dated August 11, 2026, written by the Chairman of Everight Diagnostic Ltd, Dr Everest Okpara and addressed to the management of the airline.
Okpara, who witnessed the incident, said Ogbuagu remained calm and professional despite being subjected to rude and unruly behaviour by a passenger over compliance with aviation rules.
He said the cabin crew member maintained a respectful tone and exercised considerable restraint throughout the encounter, impressing passengers seated nearby.
He said: ” I witnessed Miss Ogbuagu manage a particularly difficult interaction with a passenger who was extremely rude and unruly towards her. Despite the challenging nature of the encounter, which had to do with adherence to aviation rules, she remained remarkably calm and composed throughout.
“She maintained a respectful tone, exercised considerable restraint, and responded with a professionalism and courtesy that impressed the few passengers seated nearby, even in circumstances that could easily have provoked a less measured reaction.
According to Okpara, Ogbuagu’s ability to remain focused on her responsibility to the passenger and the airline’s policies, without allowing the passenger’s conduct to affect the quality of her service, was particularly commendable.
He noted that her measured communication, courteous demeanour and overall handling of the situation, demonstrated a high level of emotional intelligence, self-control and maturity.
Okpara said such qualities were fundamental to excellent customer service, particularly in the aviation industry where cabin crew members were often the most visible representatives of an airline.
“Cabin crew members are often the most visible representatives of an airline, and their conduct in difficult moments can significantly influence a passenger’s perception of the organisation,” he said.
He urged the airline’s management to formally recognise Ogbuagu’s conduct, stressing that employees who demonstrated such a high level of professionalism deserved to be encouraged.
Okpara expressed hope that the commendation would be formally conveyed to Ogbuagu and that her conduct would serve as an example of the service standards and values United Nigeria Airlines seeks to uphold.
