In less than two weeks, the Reconciliation Committee of the Rainbow Coalition has met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, assuring that no member of the governor’s camp would be victimised or discriminated against over past political disagreements.
The committee disclosed that efforts are being intensified to achieve peace and the restoration of an earlier political family led by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The committee stated it had also agreed on modalities to advance the reconciliation process and foster lasting peace among members of the coalition. However, the modalities and conditions have not yet been disclosed.
Recall that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had constituted the reconciliation committee shortly after Governor Fubara formally joined the coalition, comprising members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political groups.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Magnus Abe, said the meeting was meant for the hitherto estranged political leaders to further deliberate on the modalities for the ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts.
At the meeting yesterday, Abe said the committee had been holding several meetings to work out modalities on how all its members will work together. He said the explanation had become necessary because the committee wants the people of Rivers State to be aware of the new direction the state is moving in.
The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South Zone, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, who was part of the delegation, expressed appreciation to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for opening his doors and allowing the committee to meet with him and speak with him as brothers.
Another stakeholder at the meeting, Ambrose Nwuzi, said members of the group who believe in Governor Fubara have agreed to make peace, as there was nothing better than peace. He described past disagreements as a normal occurrence in any human society.
A statement by the State Government House Press Unit, said other members of the delegation included the governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State, Hon Kingsley Ogundu Chinda and Mr Tamosisi Gogo Jaja, amongst others.
