…As Fund pays N87m to 455 KWASUED students
A 200-level Cyber Security student of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State, Oghenetega Agofure, has shared how the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) helped ease the financial burden of pursuing his university education.
Agofure said funding his studies during his first year was a major challenge, forcing him to combine his academic work with jobs and other gigs to raise money for tuition and other expenses.
He said his situation changed after he learnt about the NELFUND student loan scheme and applied for assistance.
“During my 100 level, funding my academic dream was a big uphill struggle. I had to work between jobs, go for gigs and raise funds for my tuition fee. Then I heard about the NELFUND initiative and keyed into it,” he said.
According to him, NELFUND paid his school fees in full when he reached 200 level and also provided him with a monthly upkeep allowance during the semester.
Agofure expressed appreciation to the management of the University for participating in the scheme, as well as the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, for implementing the initiative. He also commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and President Bola Tinubu for supporting the student loan scheme.
“This initiative is not just any other kind of initiative. It is helping undergraduates within and around Nigeria to fund their academic dreams. You are keeping dreams alive by doing this,” he said.
Agofure urged continued support for the scheme, saying access to financial assistance could enable more students from financially constrained backgrounds to remain in school and pursue their career ambitions.
Meanwhile, the Fund has approved and released N87.36 million to 455 students of the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
The university disclosed this in a letter of appreciation dated June 25, 2026, signed by its Registrar, Mohammed Jibril, thanking the agency for the intervention.
According to the university, the funding would ease the financial burden on the beneficiaries and support their academic pursuits, describing the intervention as evidence of NELFUND’s commitment to widening access to higher education.
The institution said it looked forward to sustaining its relationship with NELFUND in advancing educational development in Nigeria.
