Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects belonging to a ”one chance” robbery syndicate operating within Abeokuta, the state capital.
The suspects : Bidemi Tijani, 29; Olajide Rasaq, 42; were arrested on August 15, 2026,
The suspect’s arrest follows an intelligence-led operation after the Command recieved information that two suspected of members of the syndicate who disguise a commercial taxi operator to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their possession were seen heading towards Ita-Oshin.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, yesterday.
Babaseyi said that upon the receipt of the report, the VCRU operatives launched a hot pursuit of the robbers towards Ita-Oshin and successfully intercepted the vehicle, and arrested the two suspects.
He said the suspects upon interrogation, confession to the commission of the ”one chance” robbery syndicate who dispossessed unsuspecting passengers of their phones, money and other valuables within Abeokuta metropolis.
The spokesperson person added that efforts are currently being intensified by operatives to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate to establish the full extent of their activities, and recover necessary exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their swift response, operational vigilance, and tactical professionalism.
Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s firm commitment to purging the state of criminal elements, warning that perpetrators of crime will find no safe haven in Ogun State.
The CP further urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or criminal activities to the police without delay.
