The growing conversation around car spotting in Lagos has taken a new turn following a social media post by Oyindamola, who shared a video of Ola of Lagos demonstrating how car spotters can carry out their activities without running afoul of the authorities.

 

Oyindamola, in the post accompanying the video on X, wrote: “Ola of Lagos showing Lagos car spotters how to spot cars in the right way at Ikoyi roundabout and in Lagos generally cos of the narrative going on online about Lagos state government wanting to scrape them off the street.”

 

The post comes amid discussions online over the activities of car spotters in Lagos and concerns about possible restrictions by the Lagos State Government.

 

The development, however, attracted a response from Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who clarified the government’s position on the activity.

 

Wahab said: “You can do your car spotting without constituting a nuisance or obstructing the road in any way. You are welcome to visit car lots and engage in your car-spotting activities there. However, staying on the road for this purpose will not be allowed in any way.

 

“Aside from being a nuisance, it is also a breach of privacy and will not be tolerated by the State Government.

 

“Thank you for your understanding!”

 

Wahab’s response indicates that the state government’s concern is not necessarily with car spotting itself, but with the manner and location in which the activity is carried out.

 

The commissioner specifically pointed car enthusiasts towards car lots as an alternative location for their activities, while ruling out the use of public roads in a manner that obstructs movement or creates a nuisance.

 

The exchange has further fueled conversations among Lagos car enthusiasts and social media users, with attention now shifting to how car spotting can continue without violating public order or the privacy of vehicle owners.
