The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel that allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub for moving illicit drugs to the United Kingdom and parts of Europe and Asia.

The operation led to the arrest of the Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate, Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” as he attempted to flee the country.

The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.), disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists in Lagos.

He described the operation as one of the most significant narcotics investigations undertaken by the agency in recent times.

Marwa said the investigation followed the interception of 184.50 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in a consignment being processed through a courier logistics company in Lagos.

The cocaine, he said, was destined for the United Kingdom and could have fetched the cartel about N39 billion through its international distribution network.

Following the seizure, Marwa said he ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team to trace the entire network behind the shipment, including the couriers, facilitators and masterminds.

Working with the management of the courier company, NDLEA operatives uncovered a network of intermediary companies and individuals allegedly used to process and move the drugs.

Two key suspects were subsequently arrested. The first, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the cocaine was processed, was allegedly found to have maintained a sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator.

Investigators established that Kehinde allegedly packaged and processed consignments for the syndicate and routed them to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia in return for cash payments.

The second suspect, Afolabi Kazeem Michael, allegedly operated under the identity of ‘KC Luxury’ as a social media influencer and businessman dealing in gold, jewellery and other luxury goods.

According to Marwa, investigations identified him as the Nigerian arrowhead of the cartel, allegedly using his glamorous public profile to conceal a cocaine trafficking operation stretching from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

Marwa said the suspect was arrested on August 13, 2026, at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after intelligence indicated that he was planning to leave Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.

“He did not walk into our custody voluntarily,” Marwa said, explaining that NDLEA operatives moved in after receiving credible intelligence about his planned departure.

At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly found with €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, as well as expensive jewellery. A subsequent search of his luxury apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, led to the recovery of exotic vehicles.

Marwa said further investigations revealed that the cartel allegedly used false identities to conceal the true consignors of its shipments and relied on financial facilitators to move billions of naira on its behalf.

He added that the syndicate maintained active criminal links in the United Kingdom, with some of its members already arrested by British authorities in connection with the same network.

The NDLEA boss linked the operation to a series of recent successes against transnational drug trafficking organisations, including the dismantling of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi drug cartel, which allegedly laundered millions of dollars through dark web marketplaces.

He also cited the agency’s recent takedown of two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine laboratories in forests in Ogun and Oyo states.

Marwa described the operation as a major success in international cooperation, noting that arrests of suspected cartel members in Nigeria and the United Kingdom were carried out almost simultaneously.

He commended the agency’s international partners and members of the Special Investigation Team, coordinated by the Director of Operations and General Investigation, for their professionalism and diligence in unraveling the syndicate.

Marwa warned individuals who attempt to hide behind luxury brands, social media influence and affluent lifestyles while engaging in drug trafficking that the agency would continue to find them.
