JAN empowers over 19,000 students through 2026 financial literacy day

Junior Achievement Nigeria empowers over 19,000 students

Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN), in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee and leading financial institutions, has successfully concluded the 2026 Financial Literacy Day campaign, equipping over 19,000 secondary school students across 36 states and the FCT with practical financial literacy skills as part of this year’s Global Money Week (GMW).

The nationwide initiative engaged students in 163 schools with support from 13 participating financial institutions, reinforcing the importance of financial education in preparing young Nigerians for a more secure financial future.

Held under the Global Money Week 2026 theme, “Smart Money Talks,” the campaign introduced students to essential financial concepts, including budgeting, saving, investing, responsible spending, and informed financial decision-making.

Volunteers from participating financial institutions, including Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, Wema Bank, Zenith Bank, Union Bank, Coronation Bank, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), Keystone Bank, Polaris Bank, and others, partnered with Junior Achievement Nigeria to deliver engaging classroom sessions designed to build lifelong financial capability among young people.

Students across the country participated in interactive discussions, practical exercises, and question-and-answer sessions that transformed financial concepts into relatable, easy-to-learn lessons.

The programme encouraged students to think critically about money, develop responsible financial habits, and understand the role of sound financial decisions in achieving their personal goals.

Speaking on the experience of delivering the programme across the country, Adewale Orebanwo, Programmes Officer, Junior Achievement Nigeria, said: “Financial literacy is an essential life skill; it knows no age group, no gender, no boundary. I’ve watched hundreds of secondary school students across this nation take ownership of their money management skills, and I have no doubt: they carry what it takes to transform their society. Financial Literacy Day has outgrown being just a one-day program. It has become a way of life.”

Speaking on the significance of the programme, the Acting Head of Programmes, JAN, Oluwatosin Oyetayo, said: “Global Money Week provides an important opportunity to impact young people with the knowledge and habits they need to make sound financial decisions from an early age. This year, Junior Achievement Nigeria reached more than 19,000 students across all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, equipping them with practical knowledge on saving, planning, budgeting, and making informed financial choices. At Junior Achievement Nigeria, we believe every naira saved today is a future secured tomorrow.”

JAN explained that the Financial Literacy Day forms part of Global Money Week, the annual international awareness campaign dedicated to ensuring that children and young people develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours needed to make sound financial decisions and achieve long-term financial well-being.

Through strategic partnerships with the financial sector, Junior Achievement Nigeria continues to expand access to quality financial education and empower the next generation to make informed financial choices that positively shape their futures.

Junior Achievement Nigeria is part of Junior Achievement Worldwide, the world’s oldest and largest non-profit economic education organisation operating in over 100 countries and impacted over 2 million students across Nigeria by fostering creativity and innovation, preparing the next generation of Nigerian leaders to drive economic change.
