Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, faulted the reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) helped him to win re-election, declaring that he had no electoral deal or alignment with the party.
A statement by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the ADC was never part of any deal that culminated in Saturday’s electoral victory.
Adeleke, who attributed his victory to the resilience and commitment of the people to his second-term ambition, contended he had no pact with the ADC.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has said that he respects the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his defeat by Adeleke.
He, however, accepted the declaration of Adeleke as the winner of the polls, declaring total support for the APC’s ongoing review of the outcome of the polls.
Oyebamiji stated this in a message posted on his X account yesterday.
He commended APC supporters and party leaders across the state for their commitment to his campaign, saying he remained grateful to those who believed in the alternative vision presented to voters.
But in contrast to Oyebamiji’s opinion, the Director-General of the APC governorship campaign in the state, Wole Oke, said the party did not agree with INEC’s election results and declaration, saying the review would determine its next step.
The party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the APC was still studying the results from all 332 wards.
Meanwhile, the state chapter of the APC and the ruling Accord Party yesterday engaged in war of words over alleged post-election violent attacks on members.
While the APC accused supporters of the ruling Accord Party in the state of perpetrating violence against its members after securing victory in the polls on Sunday, the Accord Party denied, pointing fingers at the opposition party instead for the violence.
My uncle should be an example to other govs, says Davido
Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the re-election of his uncle, Adeleke, as a victory for the people, saying the governor’s performance should serve as an example to other governors and public officials.
Davido spoke at a media briefing in Osun yesderday, saying: “Congrats to Mr Governor on his re-election for the second term. Well-deserved, hard-fought battle. In fact, let me not call it battle, war.”
He commended Osun voters for what he described as their determination to protect their votes throughout the electoral process.
