The Borno State Police command, has commenced the sensitisation of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members on crime prevention, drug abuse, cultism and responsible use of social media during their orientation in camp in Maiduguri.
The command said the two-week sensitisation programme is part of the command’s commitment to strengthening community partnership and preventive policing, focused on equipping the corps members with practical knowledge to make responsible decisions.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso disclosed:”This will enable the corps members recognise security risks, and contribute positively to the safety and wellbeing of their communities.”
Representing the Commissioner of Polic, Naziru Abdulmajid, the sensitisation team was led by the Assistant Commissioner, Department of Operations, ACP Jawi Mohammed said it is inevitable for community policing in the state.
Daso added that other facilitators include the Admin Officer, Borno State RRS/Social vices unit, DSP Kenneth Ukenya, officers from the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), and members of the Public Relations Unit of the Command.
The Command reiterated that security is a shared responsibility, stressing that young Nigerians, particularly corps members serving across communities, have an important role to play in crime prevention, peaceful coexistence, and building stronger relationships between the Police and the public.
