The Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA), Hon. Ayobami Oyalowo has urged political actors and residents to move beyond the election and focus on governance.
He stressed that the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke now has a responsibility to all residents of the state, irrespective of the parties they supported during the election.
Oyalowo, said the outcome of the Osun State governorship election reflected the collective will of the people and should be respected by all stakeholders.
According to him, the electorate had decided that the incumbent governor should continue in office, adding that the priority should now be effective governance for the benefit of all residents.
“My opinion is the fact that the people wanted their governor to continue, and well, it’s a plus for them. I hope, by God, that He is able to make sure that they don’t regret this,” Oyalowo said.
He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) also gave a good account of itself in the election, noting that the party’s 444,000 or thereabout votes would ordinarily have been enough to win another election cycle.
“Ordinarily, the 444,000 thereabout votes would have been enough to win another election cycle. However, the people must have seen something in their governor even though some of us felt APC had a better candidate. Yet, it’s democracy,” he said.
Oyalowo noted that elections were determined by the collective votes of citizens, regardless of their educational or intellectual backgrounds.
“You may be the most intellectually sound human being on earth, but you have just one vote. The same vote that you have is what the most illiterate person you can find also has. And no matter what you think, it is the collective will of the people,” he said.
He urged the governor to see his victory as a mandate to serve the entire state rather than only those who supported him during the election.
He added that the governor’s responsibility should remain the same irrespective of the political platform through which residents contested or supported the election.
“Whether APC, whether Accord, whether NDC, AGC, or whatever name the party goes by, now, his job is not to forget the name of his party and remember He is the governor of Osun,” he said.
Oyalowo maintained that the election had demonstrated the will of the people, urging stakeholders to accept the outcome and allow governance to take centre stage.
