I’m unlocking Africa’s untapped wealth through asset-backed finance’ — Ezichi

Founder of Pawn Nigeria, Eziefula Ezichi

Founder of Pawn Nigeria, Eziefula Ezichi, has said he is using his company to unlock the untapped wealth and assets that abound across Africa.

As discussions around access to capital continue across the continent, Ezichi said he is positioning Pawn Nigeria within a growing alternative-finance market built around the value of privately owned assets.

According to Ezichi, the company’s approach centres on helping owners of valuable movable assets explore ways of accessing liquidity without necessarily disposing of those assets permanently.

“The opportunity lies in an economic reality often overlooked in conversations about wealth creation: many individuals and businesses possess valuable assets while still facing short-term liquidity challenges.

“This gap between asset ownership and access to working capital has helped create room for alternative financing models across Nigeria and other African markets,” the founder of Pawn Nigeria added.

Through Pawn.ng, Ezichi has increasingly promoted the idea that valuable assets can serve a broader financial purpose beyond ownership and personal use.

The company’s positioning comes at a time when entrepreneurs and consumers are exploring alternatives to conventional borrowing, particularly where access to traditional credit may involve lengthy documentation, stringent requirements or other limitations.

“Rather than focusing solely on conventional lending structures, asset-backed finance evaluates the underlying value of eligible property as part of the financing process.

“For owners of luxury items and other qualifying assets, this can provide another route to liquidity while allowing them to approach financial decisions from the perspective of existing wealth.”

Ezichi said Pawn Nigeria has also been building visibility beyond its home market as it develops its presence across West Africa, particularly in Nigeria and Ghana.

“That regional ambition reflects my broader view of an African market in which significant wealth exists outside bank accounts and conventional investment products.”l

He said real estate, luxury assets, vehicles, jewellery, collectibles and other valuable property collectively represent substantial private wealth across the continent.

The Pawn Nigeria founder said unlocking some of that value, while developing appropriate risk-management and valuation structures, could help expand the range of financing options available to consumers and entrepreneurs.

“The opportunity is particularly relevant to small business owners who may hold valuable personal or commercial assets while needing working capital for immediate opportunities.”

He said that as Pawn Nigeria widens its profile, these issues are likely to remain central to how the company and the broader asset-backed financing industry evolve.
