The Vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has challenged the nomination of serving public office holders on the presidential campaign council of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement also describing the composition of membership of the campaign council as a reflection of the choice Nigerians would face in the 2027 general election.

In a release posted on his verified social media handle, Kwankwaso insisted that institutions of government requires neutrality, integrity and public confidence instead of deeping into partisan politics.

Kwankwaso specifically raised concerns over the membership of the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Dr Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, in the campaign’s fundraising and finance structures of President Tinubu.

He demanded the Federal Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to explain how the involvement of senior officials responsible for public revenue and national finances in partisan campaign structures aligns with institutional neutrality and public trust.

The leader of the opposition questioned the nomination of former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director General of the campaign council questioned whether or not the serving Senator could lead the campaign in good conscience.

He said the former Governor and prominent North-West leader, Yari was familiar with the impact of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, displacement and destruction of livelihoods on communities in the region and across Nigeria.

He said ” I wonder whether Yari could, in good conscience, lead a campaign aimed at securing the continuation of a government under which, he claimed, many Nigerians remained trapped in those challenges.

Kwankwaso lamented that Tinubu campaign council “comprised many political actors who had supported, defended or participated in the present administration”, arguing that its composition raised questions about whether the APC was offering Nigerians a new direction or seeking to sustain the existing system.

According to him, the 2027 election would be a contest between Nigerians suffering from the prevailing economic challenges and those who had benefited from or sustained the system responsible for their hardship.

He said families across the country were struggling with rising food prices and the cost of basic necessities, while young Nigerians faced unemployment and diminishing opportunities.

He also expressed concern over the difficulties confronting farmers and businesses, insecurity across parts of the country, and pressure on education, healthcare and other essential public services.

The former Kano state Governor urged Nigerians to use the 2027 election to demand accountable and people-centred governance, stressing that the electorate had the power to reject what he described as continued hardship.
