Development Initiative of West Africa(DIWA)has organized a Digital Dignity Bootcamp(DDB), training for (55) Secondary School Girls,ages between 15-18 years, from (11)schools,and across Six local government councils of Niger State.

Heald at the Islamic Education Trust(I.E.T), premises Minna,on Monday,24th August,2026.

The DDB,is a Five day residential leadership and future skills programme designed to equip adolescent girls with digital literacy, online safety, leadership, STEAM exposure,and responsible digital citizenship skills.

The Board Chairman DIWA,Saidu Suleiman Takuma, observed that the training is timely, saying that in recent times,majority of female children has become the victims because of what they don’t understand about social media.

Takuma noted that the training would make the girls more aware,more responsible,more visionary and more creative in what they do with their education.

According to Saidu, the important thing is that, what lessons do we impact on the girls,in making them successful in using the technology to enhance the education they are getting and to also go into life and successful choosing their career such as Doctors,Teachers, Accountants, Lawyers or whatever they choose to go into”. Takuma noted.

The Board Chairman DIWA, urged the relevant government agencies to appreciate teachers on what they do,suggesting that teachers should be given better renumeration,and also make their working condition better”.

While declaring the training Programme opened, Niger State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr.Hadiza Asabe Mohammad, stressed that Niger State government is committed to strengthen foundational learning,improve teachers capacity,promote digital literacy, encourage innovation and ensure that schools increasingly become environments where learners acquire the skills require for the future.

Dr Asabe maintained that Digital Dignity Bootcamp will complements the directions by placing the human being at the centre of digital transformation.

“In Commissioner’s words”.Technology must serve humanity,innovation must serve society,and education must serve the future”.She noted.

Dr Mohammad further remark that’s the technologies of tomorrow are being developed today, pointing out that the jobs of tomorrow are being created today,and the leaders of tomorrow are sitting in the classroom today.

“Dr Hadiza said we are declaring that our young people must not merely be consumers of technology,they must become confidence, responsible, innovative and empowered digital citizenship, emphasizing that access to technology must go hand in hand with dignity, safety, responsibility,inclusion and opportunity”.She said.

She however applauded the organizers, facilitators, partners and participants for their commitment,and urged them to make the Bootcamp practical,transformative and sustainable.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer,CEO, Development Initiative of West Africa,DIWa,Daoda Kanneh, explained that (55) adolescent girls and 11 school teachers from Six local government areas of Niger State will participate in learning, leadership,peer engagement,and practical sessions focused on digital safety, responsible technology use, online well-being,as well as the prevention of gender base violence

The C.E.O DIWA had revealed that the organization intend that the knowledge and confidence developed will be shared with other students through a school based peer learning and step down approach, saying that participants can become positive sources of information and support within their schools and communities.

According to him,we deliberately include teachers because sustainability requires that knowledge and support do not end when the Bootcamp closes, teachers are part of the school environment in which these young people learn,interact,and seek guidance,their environment provides an opportunity to strengthen the support available to students beyond the programm.

He appreciated Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for it’s support in the selection and mobilization of participating schools and students,as well as participating school authorities and teachers for their cooperation.

The Fifty Five adolescent girls were selected from schools in Bida, Bosso, Chanchaga, Paikoro, lapai, and Suleja Local Councils of Niger State.
