The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and substances suspected to be cannabis during an operation in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The operation, conducted on Monday, August 24, 2026, by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki, was part of efforts to curb the illegal trade and storage of petroleum products as well as the proliferation of illicit drugs within the base’s area of operations.

According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the suspects fled the scene before they could be apprehended.

He said the recovered products and suspected cannabis were secured and transported to the base for further investigation and appropriate action in line with established procedures.

Folorunsho said the operation underscored the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to disrupting activities capable of threatening national economic interests, public safety and security.

“The Nigerian Navy remains committed to disrupting activities that threaten national economic interests, public safety and security within its area of operations,” he said.

He added that the latest interception formed part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to tackle the illegal movement and storage of petroleum products and other illicit activities along the nation’s waterways and coastal communities.
