Academic and media institutions across Nigeria have celebrated Dr Adeola Yusuf following his conferment with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Media Studies by Lagos State University (LASU).

Yusuf, Team Lead and Editor-in-Chief of Platforms Africa, was honoured in tributes by Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Crescent University, Caritas Communications, Hyphen Partners, and Ikeja Electric.

Head of Department (HoD), Mass Communication at MAPOLY, Abeokuta, Dr Wasiu Tejuoso, said that Yusuf’s “consistency in academic growth” since his MAPOLY days made the achievement unsurprising.

“We are so proud of your exploits,” he stated in a letter he signed and sent to Yusuf.

Crescent University PRO, Idris Katib, also described Yusuf as a “multiple award-winner, publisher and motivational speaker,” praying for “greater impact and fulfilment.”

Chairman of Caritas Communications, Adedayo Ojo, called the doctorate “a fitting recognition of years of intellectual investment.”

He praised Yusuf for combining “the discipline of a practitioner with the instinct of a scholar.”

Platforms Africa, in a statement signed by management and staff, said the doctorate degree was “a victory for all of us.”

They noted: “You have mentored us to tell African stories with depth, data, and dignity. This PhD proves that town and gown can meet.”

Rev. Sola Adebawo of Hyphen Partners said the award reinforces “the union of experience, research and informed public engagement,” while Ikeja Electric, through Kingsley Okotie, described it as a win for both “town and gown,” citing Yusuf’s “unparalleled dedication and professionalism.”

LASU supervisors, Prof. Jide Jimoh and Prof. Rotimi Olatunji, also hailed Yusuf as “studious and humble” and “steadfast.”

Meanwhile, the milestone has been widely described as proof that scholarship and journalism can work together to strengthen Nigeria’s media and development landscape.
