HerCapital Africa supports 70 women entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship

HerCapital Africa has supported some women entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, business advisory services and growth opportunities through its Business Growth Fund.

HerCapital Africa, an initiative of Mumsbooth Empowerment Initiative focused on expanding women’s access to finance and business growth opportunities, has supported 70 women entrepreneurs through its Business Growth Fund Programme.

The programme is designed to address some of the financing and capacity challenges limiting the growth of women-owned businesses by providing qualified entrepreneurs with access to business capital, mentorship, advisory support and other opportunities to expand their enterprises.

Speaking on the initiative, Founder of HerCapital Africa, Mrs Martha Tawiyah, said the programme was created in response to the persistent difficulty many women entrepreneurs face in accessing the capital needed to grow their businesses.

According to her, many women operate viable businesses but struggle to expand their operations, increase productivity and create additional employment because of limited access to finance.

“Thousands of women have viable businesses but remain unable to grow because they lack access to capital. Through the HerCapital Africa Business Growth Fund, we are changing that narrative by providing women with the financial support and ecosystem they need to build thriving businesses,” Tawiyah said.

The beneficiaries operate across a range of sectors, including retail, agriculture, fashion, food processing, beauty, manufacturing and services, among other small and growing businesses.

Beyond providing funding, HerCapital Africa said the programme offers beneficiaries business advisory services, financial management guidance, mentorship, market access and opportunities to improve their readiness for investment.

Tawiyah explained that the initiative is structured to ensure that beneficiaries receive the knowledge and support required to make effective use of the capital provided and build businesses capable of sustaining long-term growth.

She added that beneficiaries would also become members of the growing HerCapital Africa business community, providing opportunities to develop professional networks, collaborate with other entrepreneurs and connect with potential investors.

According to the organisation, the Business Growth Fund is part of its broader mission to make business financing more accessible to women while developing an ecosystem that connects female entrepreneurs with capital, expertise and growth opportunities.

The initiative also seeks to address the wider gap between women starting businesses and their ability to scale them into sustainable enterprises.

For many women-owned businesses, access to finance is only one part of the growth challenge. Business management skills, market access, financial planning, mentorship and connections to potential investors can also determine whether an enterprise is able to move from survival to sustainable expansion.

By combining funding with these forms of support, HerCapital Africa aims to provide beneficiaries with a broader foundation for business development.

The organisation said it plans to expand the programme to support thousands of women-owned businesses across Nigeria and other African countries.

The expansion strategy will focus on increasing access to finance, strengthening entrepreneurial capacity and helping women build financially resilient businesses capable of creating employment and contributing to economic growth.

HerCapital Africa reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs through strategic partnerships, innovative funding models and community-driven initiatives designed to help businesses scale.

The organisation said its long-term objective is to contribute to a stronger ecosystem in which women entrepreneurs have greater access to the capital, knowledge, networks and opportunities required to build sustainable businesses.
