A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KC Luxury, before the court after 14 days in the agency’s custody.

Micheal was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while he was preparing to travel to Paris. His lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, subsequently approached the court to challenge his continued detention and seek the enforcement of his fundamental rights.

The court has now directed the anti-narcotics agency to produce Micheal before it, bringing his continued detention under judicial scrutiny. The order comes after the socialite had spent two weeks in NDLEA custody without being arraigned before a court.

Micheal’s lawyer had asked the court to intervene over his client’s detention, which has now become the subject of judicial proceedings.

The latest development does not amount to a determination of any allegation against Micheal. Rather, the court’s directive requires the NDLEA to bring him before the court as the legal challenge over his detention proceeds. The agency is expected to comply with the order and produce Micheal as directed.

The case is expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding his arrest and continued detention, as well as the next steps in the matter. Further proceedings will determine the outcome of the application challenging his detention.
