Nigerians Should Start Investing Early For Long-Term Wealth – Yield by Credit Direct Urges

To secure a safe future, Yield by Credit Direct Limited through its investment platform, Yield, has called on Nigerians to move beyond simply keeping money and begin investing early as a pathway to building sustainable wealth.

This call was made during the second edition of The Naira Life Conference, organised by Zikoko, held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Lagos, under the theme “All About Wealth”.

The Chief Product Officer of Credit Direct, Nifemi Oluboyede, during his remark at the conference explained that building wealth requires a deliberate approach to money, particularly the decision to ensure that funds set aside for the future are not merely held but are allowed to generate returns. Adding that while keeping funds aside remains important, particularly for emergencies and short-term financial obligations. Money that is left sitting without earning a return can lose purchasing power over time as prices rise.

He explained that wealth grows over time through regular investments and the returns they generate. Starting with a small, affordable amount can be more effective than waiting until one has a large sum to invest. The longer money stays invested, the more time it has to grow through compounding, reducing the need for large one-time investments.

Corroborating Oluboyede’s earlier explanation, Dr Emeka Ucheaga, Head of Research, Strategy and Financial Inclusion at Credit Direct, introduced attendees to the Rule of 72, a long-standing rule of thumb in personal finance used to estimate how many years it takes an investment to double in value. The calculation involves dividing 72 by the annual rate of return, with the result providing an approximate number of years required for an investment to double. Using a 21 per cent annual return as an example, he estimated that the investment would double in about 3.4 years, roughly 3 years and 5 months if the rate is stable.

Oluboyede introduced Yield by Credit Direct to attendees as a wealth management platform designed to help everyday Nigerians transition from passively holding money to actively growing it. He noted that Yield offers Nigerians a low-barrier, structured way to begin investing, with returns of up to 21 per cent per annum on its fixed investment plans.

According to him, Yield by Credit Direct makes it easy for Nigerians to start investing, as individuals can begin investing on the platform with as little as ₦50,000, giving people an opportunity to begin building their investments without waiting to accumulate larger amounts.

Oluboyede’s introduction of Yield demonstrated that the journey towards wealth creation does not have to begin with a large investment or wait until an individual believes they are financially comfortable. It can begin with understanding the purpose of one’s money, setting aside what can reasonably be invested and allowing time and consistent investing to do part of the work.
