Team Rockets, at the weekend, defeated Team Glo Strikers to win the football gold medal at the maiden Globacom Sports Festival held at The Stable, Surulere, Lagos.

The entertaining game saw Team Rockets, made up of members of the Sales and Value Added Services departments, employing a unique team play strategy to outwit Team Strikers FC, which comprised representatives from Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments, in the final.

For their victory, Team Rockets received the championship trophy and a cash prize of N1 million, while the runners-up went home with N750,000. Players from both teams were also presented with medals in recognition of their performance. Winners in the other sporting events also received medals and cash prizes.

The one-day festival, tagged Glo FitFest 2026, featured Globacom employees, who participated in various games as the company marked its 23rd anniversary. With the celebration falling on a weekend, participants took the opportunity to unwind, connect with colleagues and celebrate the milestone in a lively and competitive atmosphere.

Apart from football, the employees fought for honours in table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race and Big Ayo involving teams drawn from different departments across the company. Participants were grouped into clusters to inspire teamwork, collaboration and healthy competition.

Dressed in colourful branded T-shirts, colleagues enthusiastically took part in the various games, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, laughter and cheer. The event was also an opportunity to recharge and celebrate the contributions that have helped drive the company’s success over the past 23 years.

The football competition emerged as the highlight of the day, drawing strong support from teammates and generating friendly rivalries among participating teams. Determined to secure victory, some teams enlisted colleagues from other regions, adding to the competitive spirit of the tournament.
