Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has directed security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration and preventive operations to crush the emerging security threats and safeguard lives and property across the state.

Speaking after the governor gave the order during the state security council meeting in Jos, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ayodeji Faniyan, agreed on the imperative of neutralising threats before they materialise, even as the ember months begin, and with political activities intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Faniyan disclosed that arrests have been made in connection with some of the major recent attacks in the state, including on Mangu, adding that investigations were ongoing to identify other suspects and establish their roles.

Meanwhile, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has expressed concern over yesterday’s attacks on Rim and Wereng communities of Riyom Local Council Area, which claimed two youths, Joel Bwede, 39, and Justice Dadong, 22.

Calling on the federal and Plateau State governments, as well as security agencies, to do much more to safeguard lives and property, the BYM noted in a statement yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, that human lives were increasingly being reduced to mere numbers by the recurring killings.

It stressed that each casualty represents a family shattered, dreams cut short and a community left traumatised, warning that this should not become the new normal in the state.
