Gov. Eno threatens to terminate Ewet Garden Estate contract over slow pace

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has given the contractor handling the Ewet Luxury Garden Estate project in Uyo a three-month deadline to accelerate construction and complete the development.

Eno issued the directive on Sunday during an unscheduled inspection of the project, shortly after attending a church service at Qua Iboe Church, Ewet Offot, Uyo.

The governor expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work on the estate, which comprises 35 buildings, and directed the contractor, Western Legacy Investment Limited, to expedite construction and ensure the timely completion and handover of the project.

He also ordered the contractor to discontinue the construction of porch roofs on the buildings and directed the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Bob, to ensure that 12 buildings are completed and handed over to the government every month, beginning in September.

Eno warned that failure to meet the monthly completion targets would result in the termination of the contract.
“I am not pleased at the state of this project. This project itself is well overdue for handing over to those who have bought these houses.

“I have just given a directive to the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Bob, that by the end of the month, there are 35 buildings here, I want the contractor to finish 12 buildings every month, starting this September. Whichever one is not ready, I will terminate the contract,” he said.

The governor said the directive was in line with his administration’s commitment to ensuring the prompt completion and delivery of government projects so that residents could derive their intended benefits.

He also directed contractors handling projects across the state to increase their pace of work and adhere strictly to agreed delivery timelines.
