American singer T-Pain has filed another lawsuit against Konvict Entertainment, the record label co-founded by international music star Akon. This is a long-standing financial dispute over alleged unpaid royalties.

According to reports, the Grammy-winning artist is demanding $489,047 approximately N647 million claiming that the label deliberately withheld funds generated from his music sales despite a previous settlement.

However, the latest legal battle centers around a substantial financial transaction involving more than $1.3 million that Konvict Entertainment reportedly received from a distributor for T-Pain’s music catalog. T-Pain’s legal team argues that a significant portion of this payout rightfully belongs to the artist under their contractual agreements, yet the funds have allegedly failed to reach him.

Born Faheem Najm, T-Pain began his professional music journey by recording a personalized take on Akon’s hit single “Locked Up”. Impressed by the track, Akon signed the rising artist to his label, Konvict Muzik, establishing a partnership that would define the sound of mid-2000s R&B and hip-hop. Under this umbrella, T-Pain released his debut studio album, Rappa Ternt Sanga, in 2005, which featured hit singles like “I’m Sprung” and “I’m ‘n Luv (wit a Stripper)”.

Over the years, T-Pain built an impressive discography, including successful studio albums such as Epiphany (2007) and Thr33 Ringz (2008), which spawned mega-hits like “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” and “Bartender”. Renowned for popularizing the creative use of Auto-Tune, his distinct vocals became a staple on numerous chart-topping collaborations. His extensive list of accolades includes prestigious Grammy Awards for hits like Kanye West’s “Good Life” and Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It”.
