Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have launched a manhunt for a suspected armed robber who fled after abandoning a bag containing three firearms during a security patrol in the Ajibawo area of the state.

The incident occurred in the early hours of September 13, 2026, at about 12:35 a.m.

The Corps Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abeokuta by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi.

Ganzallo said operatives of the Kajola Oke-Ore Divisional Command were conducting a routine patrol when they sighted a man carrying a bag on his back around Success Unit Post, Success CDA, Ajibawo.

According to him, the operatives approached the man for routine security checks and questioned him about his movement and the contents of the bag.

He said the suspect, apparently to evade questioning, immediately fled, prompting the operatives to chase him.

“Upon realising that the officers were close, he abandoned the bag and escaped into the surrounding area,” Ganzallo said.

He added that when the officers inspected the abandoned bag, they found a pair of pliers, a measuring tape, a carpenter’s bar, one pistol, one single-barrel firearm and one suspected AK-type rifle.

Ganzallo said the recovered items were immediately secured and the incident reported through the appropriate command channels.

He disclosed that the matter had subsequently been transferred to the Atan-Ota Divisional Police Command for further investigation, examination of the recovered firearms and other items, as well as appropriate action.

The commander said efforts were being intensified, in collaboration with other security agencies, to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

He commended the officers of the Kajola Oke-Ore Divisional Command for their vigilance, prompt response and commitment to duty, noting that the recovery underscored the importance of sustained security patrols and intelligence gathering.

Ganzallo reiterated the Corps’ commitment to intelligence-led security operations, the protection of lives and property, and collaboration with other security agencies to combat crime across Ogun State.

He also urged residents, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies.

The commander assured that the recovered items would be subjected to proper investigation by the relevant authorities, while efforts would continue to establish the identity of the fleeing suspect and determine any possible links to criminal activities.
