CIPM charges HR professionals to turn knowledge into measurable value

Ahmed Gobir

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has challenged organisations and human resource professionals to translate knowledge and ideas gained at its conferences into measurable improvements in workplace performance and organisational value.

President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, gave the charge at the close of the four-day conference in Abuja, which attracted more than 4,000 physical delegates and over 1,000 virtual participants from Nigeria and other countries.

Gobir said the conclusion of the conference should mark the beginning of practical implementation of the ideas and lessons generated during the event.

“We came, we learned, we networked, and we connected,” he said, stressing that the real test of the conference would be what participants did with the knowledge gained after returning to their organisations.

“The real conference begins when we return to our boardrooms, leadership teams and organisations. What we have learned here must be translated into action, measurable value and lasting impact,” he said.

The conference, held under the theme, ‘Repositioning for Value and Impact’, brought together HR professionals, business leaders, policymakers, academics and international experts to examine the changing role of people management in organisational and national development.

Discussions focused on human-centred leadership, public-sector transformation, organisational performance, governance, workforce productivity, artificial intelligence, human capability, professional standards, career development and the changing expectations of business leaders from the HR profession.

Gobir said the conference had provided participants with knowledge and professional connections but challenged them to ensure that the lessons translated into workplace transformation.
“This conference has given us knowledge and memories to take home. The challenge before us now is to ensure that the lessons learned become catalysts for transformation in our workplaces and institutions,” he said.

The CIPM president also highlighted the institute’s expanding international engagement through mutual recognition arrangements and strategic partnerships with global professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA).

He said the partnerships were aimed at strengthening professional standards and ensuring that Nigerian HR practitioners remained competitive in the global people-management environment.

Gobir further announced that the Third African Human Resource Summit would be held alongside the 59th International Conference and Exhibition in 2027.

He said the event would provide another platform for HR practitioners across the continent to deepen professional collaboration and address emerging workforce and organisational challenges.

The conference featured business executives, public-sector leaders, HR experts and other thought leaders who challenged participants to reconsider conventional approaches to people management, with greater emphasis on innovation, data-driven decision-making, workforce capability and organisational value.

In his closing remarks, Gobir thanked delegates, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and partners for their contributions to the conference.

“There is no conference without the people, and you all brought this one to life,” he said.

He said that with the conference concluded, the emphasis had shifted from discussion to implementation, urging HR professionals to demonstrate the relevance of people management through improved productivity, stronger organisations and measurable value in the workplace.
