The Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau remain on top of Group L of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after humiliating the Super Eagles of Nigeria 3-0 on Tuesday evening at the Estádio 24 de Setembro.

Emiliano Té, coach of Guinea-Bissau, didn’t rule out the possibility of beating the Super Eagles as he revealed that previous meetings between the two sides won’t deter his side from going for victory against the three-time African champions.

Guinea-Bissau started the tie with clearly intention to unsettle the Super Eagles early and the intensity paid off within the first quarter.

Trabzonspor’s striker Franculino put the hosts ahead 15 minutes from the blast of the first whistle as he moved past Bruno Onyemaechi from the left flank before burying the ball into the far corner.

The Super Eagles dominated possession but struggled to create meaningful chances for most of the half as the hosts protected their lead going into the halftime break.

Eric Chelle introduced Moses Usor and Simon in the second half to change the dynamic but the duo created little or nothing as the hosts comfortably sat deep leaving the team to recycling possession.

Two second-half goals from Mama Balde after the hour mark and substitute Alvaro Djalo deep in added time secured maximum points and another clean sheet for Guinea-Bissau after matchday 2 of the qualifiers.

Guinea-Bissau remain at the summit of Group L with six points and two clean sheets from two matches, while the Super Eagles of Nigeria are in second place with three points and a -2 goal deficit.
