Group sets 200,000 votes target for Makinde in Ekiti

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

A political pressure group under the auspices the GRASSROOTS 121 ACTION, advocating grassroots support for the presidential aspiration of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has declared its readiness to undertake sustained grassroots mobilisation across Ekiti State ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group announced a minimum target of 200,000 votes in Ekiti State for Makinde, saying its mobilisation strategy would be driven by a structured presence at the polling-unit level.

The declaration followed the inauguration earlier Ado-Ekiti of 5,000 polling-unit canvassers, organised to cover the state’s 2,445 polling units across its 16 Local Government Areas. INEC records confirm the 2,445-polling-unit structure of Ekiti State.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Convener of GRASSROOTS 121 ACTION, Mrs. Lanre Fajuyi, congratulated the newly appointed Unit Coordinators and Assistant Unit Coordinators and charged them to approach their responsibilities with seriousness, discipline and commitment.

Fajuyi urged the coordinators to maintain direct engagement with voters at the grassroots, understand issues affecting their communities and ensure that the organisation’s mobilisation activities extend to every polling unit.

She said the group was determined to build a formidable grassroots structure capable of translating its support for Makinde’s presidential aspiration into measurable electoral participation in 2027.

“We have set a clear target of a minimum of 200,000 votes in Ekiti State. This is not a declaration to be made and forgotten; it is a responsibility that requires organisation, commitment and sustained engagement at the grassroots.”

She further charged the newly appointed coordinators to leave no stone unturned in pursuing the group’s stated objective, while urging them to operate within the law and respect the rights of all voters and political stakeholders.

Group Criticises Tinubu Administration

The group also used the occasion to express its dissatisfaction with the economic situation in the country under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to GRASSROOTS 121 ACTION, the administration’s policies have imposed significant economic pressures on ordinary Nigerians and contributed, in the group’s view, to increasing hardship and declining purchasing power.

The group described what it considers the government’s inadequate response to the economic difficulties confronting citizens as insensitive, arguing that Nigerians deserve stronger measures to address poverty, unemployment, food insecurity and the rising cost of living.

The group said its advocacy for Makinde is therefore part of a broader political conversation about the direction of the country ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

GRASSROOTS 121 ACTION said it would continue its grassroots engagement across Ekiti through its coordinators and canvassers, with emphasis on voter engagement, political awareness and participation.

The group stressed that its newly inaugurated structure represents the beginning of a sustained grassroots operation and not a one-off political gathering.
