Police Train First Batch Of 30 Officers In UAS Technology

Not fewer than 30 Police officer graduands of Nigerian Police Academy, Kano have completed training in Unmanned Aerial Systems and Technical Capacity Development to combat terrorism in the country.

The first set of the Police officers were trained under the Nigerian defence technology company, Nethahwk Solution based in Kaduna, from it’s Basic Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Course One.

Specifically, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nethawk Aviation Solution company, Flight Lieutenant Adedoyin Akerele (rtd), while addressing top Police Officers and graduands on Saturday, said that “the graduation marks a significant milestone in Nethawk’s commitment to specialised aviation training, indigenous technical capacity development and the responsible integration of unmanned aircraft systems into authorised security and public-safety operations.”

According to him, “it represents the first cohort of a planned 100-officer training programme and reflects the company’s broader ambition to advance Nigeria’s aviation technology capabilities.”

“Through its aviation training initiative, Nethawk continues to develop professional aviation expertise and promote structured technical training to strengthen operational capacity, support safer communities and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s indigenous aviation ecosystem”, he said.

Akerele who also spoke with Journalists said that the training of the police officers is further geared to combat terrorism, banditry and other acts of criminality in Nigerian society

Meanwhile, among those present at the occasion is the Special Guest of Honour, Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, who was represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Idri Bunu, the Area Commander, Metro Kaduna.

The Police Headquarters Air Wing was represented by Supretendent of Police, O. U. Shadrach, while the Mando Police Station was represented by its Divisional Police Officer, Chief Supretendent of Police , Shaibu Patiko.

Besides, stressing further, Akerele remarked, “Nethawk is pursuing the development of indigenous aviation expertise through its operational activities, technology development and specialised training initiatives”, adding that “its aviation training initiative forms part of this broader commitment, providing a platform for advancing manned and unmanned aviation education and professional capacity development.”

Said he: “Nethawk’s 2026 course architecture covers aviation ground school, basic and advanced UAS training, specialised mission qualification, UAS mission planning and strategic UAS operations management.”

He explained that “Nethawk reports have conducted unmanned aircraft systems operations across more than 65 communities in Nigeria; and having four actively operating, locally developed UAS solutions and platforms. The company also reports having trained hundreds of aviation personnel for professional roles across sectors including law enforcement, the military, oil and gas, and power.”

“These achievements reflect Nethawk’s commitment to indigenous expertise, practical technology development and the advancement of Nigeria’s aviation technology ecosystem”, he noted.

“Through its operational capabilities and training initiatives, Nethawk continues to pursue opportunities to strengthen local technical capacity and contribute to technological advancement across Nigeria and Africa”, Akerele said.

He stressed, “as the first 30 officers complete the course, the graduation represents an important step towards the wider objective of training 100 police personnel. It also demonstrates how Nethawk’s investment in structured aviation education and indigenous technical capacity can contribute to professional development and the responsible application of emerging technologies.”

Meanwhile, the ACP Bunu who represented the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police said that the training of the 30 police officers in the UAS technology will go a long way by the police fight acts of terrorism and other criminal activities in the society.
