From childhood dancer to entrepreneur, Afroblueriss shares her journey

Joy Happiness Ogbonna, popularly known as Afroblueriss

Nigerian dancer, content creator and entrepreneur Joy Happiness Ogbonna, popularly known as Afroblueriss, has reflected on her journey into entertainment, revealing how an early interest in dancing developed into online content creation and a growing ambition to establish businesses across different sectors.

The Lagos-born entertainer, who began dancing at the age of five, said her involvement in entertainment was initially driven by enjoyment rather than a deliberate decision to pursue a professional career.

Over time, however, her interest in performing evolved into content creation, exposing her to new audiences and opportunities.

Beyond entertainment, Ogbonna is also pursuing entrepreneurship through Happy Luxe Spa, a business she established as part of her interest in wellness and service delivery.

Born on June 15, 2003, in Lagos, Ogbonna hails from Onicha Igboeze in Ebonyi State. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lagos State University (LASU).

Her academic background, she explained, has influenced her approach to entrepreneurship and strengthened her interest in developing business ideas.

Recalling her introduction to entertainment, Ogbonna said dancing became part of her life long before she considered building a public profile.

As a young child, she enjoyed performing while continuing her education.

“It all began when I was 5 years old, still schooling then, love entertainment most especially dancing, I didn’t start with a grand plan was just doing it for fun then,” she recalled.

What began as a childhood pastime gradually became a more serious interest as she grew older.

Ogbonna subsequently started creating and sharing comedy skits and other entertainment content on social media.

According to her, the decision to post videos online introduced her to people she might not otherwise have encountered and helped her develop a following.

She described the attention she received as an unexpected development in a journey that had started without a defined career plan.

Through social media, she began building connections with other users and exploring opportunities associated with digital entertainment.

Although she did not provide figures for her audience size or engagement, Ogbonna said the experience encouraged her to continue developing her creative interests.

Ogbonna identified a disagreement with her mother over her preferred career as one of the significant challenges she encountered.

According to the entertainer, her mother wanted her to pursue a career in the military rather than concentrate on dancing and online content creation.

The difference in expectations created a difficult decision for her as she considered the direction she wanted her life to take.

Ogbonna said she ultimately chose to continue pursuing entertainment because it was something she enjoyed.

Her experience reflects a challenge faced by some young people who seek careers in creative industries while navigating family expectations about more conventional professions.

For Ogbonna, the decision was not simply about choosing an occupation. It also involved identifying activities that gave her a sense of purpose and personal fulfilment.

She has continued to develop her interests in entertainment while exploring ways to build a sustainable professional future.

Alongside her activities as a dancer and content creator, Ogbonna has ventured into business through Happy Luxe Spa.

She said the venture reflects her interest in wellness and the importance of providing people with opportunities to relax and manage everyday pressures.

Ogbonna believes wellness services should not be accessible only to people with substantial disposable incomes.

She expressed particular interest in making relaxation and self-care opportunities available to young people and individuals earning average incomes.

Her business plans are informed by the belief that entrepreneurship can provide opportunities for financial independence while meeting practical needs.

“I am passionate about business because I believe you can only become a multimillionaire if you have a business plan and mindset to match,” she said.

For Ogbonna, business ownership involves more than identifying an opportunity. She believes preparation, discipline and a willingness to learn are necessary for long-term growth.

She hopes to expand beyond her current venture into other areas of business.

Although she did not disclose Happy Luxe Spa’s location, services, number of employees or operating history, she described the venture as an important part of her entrepreneurial development.

Ogbonna said her longer-term ambitions include establishing additional businesses in technology, consumer products and beauty.

She is particularly interested in developing an enterprise that could help people living in remote communities access opportunities that may be less readily available in their immediate environments.

While she has not announced a specific project or timetable for that ambition, she said creating opportunities for others is an important consideration in her future plans.

Her interest in business development is also connected to her education in Business Administration.

She believes the knowledge acquired through her studies can contribute to planning, managing and expanding business ventures.

Rather than limiting herself to one industry, Ogbonna hopes to explore opportunities that combine commercial sustainability with services people can use.

Her plans remain at an early stage, but she sees entrepreneurship as a significant part of her future alongside entertainment.

Beyond her professional activities, Ogbonna said she has developed an interest in charitable giving.

She recalled that one of her earliest experiences of supporting vulnerable people involved purchasing food for homeless individuals.

According to her, the experience encouraged her to continue assisting people facing difficult circumstances.

She said she now makes donations to people in need on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on available resources.

Ogbonna did not identify a registered charitable organisation or provide figures for her contributions.

Nevertheless, she described giving as a personal commitment that she hopes to maintain as her career and business activities develop.

Her interest in supporting disadvantaged communities also informs her ambition to establish businesses capable of creating wider opportunities.

As she continues building her professional identity, Ogbonna said she is paying greater attention to personal development.

She identified patience, effective listening and continuous learning as qualities she wants to strengthen.

According to her, developing these skills is important both for maintaining relationships and for managing the responsibilities associated with business ownership.

She is also interested in working with brands in the lifestyle, fitness and entertainment sectors.

Such collaborations, she believes, could provide opportunities to expand her creative work and develop new professional relationships.

Ogbonna said she has not yet participated in television interviews, conferences, seminars or podcasts, but remains open to opportunities that align with her interests.

Her immediate priorities include developing Happy Luxe Spa, improving her creative skills and exploring additional business ideas.

Although she is still building her career, Ogbonna believes her experience demonstrates the importance of pursuing personal interests while remaining open to new possibilities.

From dancing as a five-year-old to creating online entertainment and establishing a business, Afroblueriss is seeking to build a career that accommodates both creativity and entrepreneurship.

For now, her focus remains on developing those interests, strengthening her professional network and working towards business ventures that could eventually reach communities beyond Lagos.
