… Insists Appeal Court verdict reflects people’s will
… Says bench remains last hope of common man
The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Ghani Arobo, has stated that the recent verdict of the Court of Appeal reaffirming the will of the people ahead of the 2027 general elections is a clear indication that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man and must never be ridiculed or undermined.
- In a statement issued by the Director of Publicity and Public Engagement to the candidate, Ojo Bright Eniafe, Arobo berated current Member of the House of Representatives for the constituency, Adelegbe, for allegedly launching an attack on respected judges.
The APC candidate described the development as “not only uncouth but also a reckless assault on the judiciary, coming from a lawmaker who has spent eight years in the National Assembly.
“Such comments amount to an outright desecration of the judiciary, the last hope of the common man, and a legislator of Adelegbe’s experience ought to know better.
According to the statement, words capable of undermining another arm of government, particularly the judiciary, have no place in public discourse.
“The lawmaker’s sacrilegious comments on learned judges represent a clear attempt to erode the fabric of the courts and the painstaking work of judges who stand firm for justice, fairness, and equity.
Arobo emphasized that the outcome of the appeal may have impacted the outgoing lawmaker negatively but insisted it should come as no surprise, as the verdict reaffirmed the will of the people already expressed on May 16, 2026.
He noted that while his camp was campaigning from community to community and building structures from the unit level, “those who sat far away awaiting a godfather’s announcement could not justifiably spew sacrilege on the justice system, questioning the morality in all of it.
“The quest for power or continued public service must never drive anyone to desperation that ridicules the courts. Whoever is advising or enabling this desecration of the judiciary should think again. The court is not a commodity to be bought or sold but a temple of justice,” the statement read.
The statement further read that, “We will explore every available legal avenue open to us under the Constitution and shall refrain from further comment on the substantive matter so as not to prejudice the process.
“But let there be no doubt: the judiciary remains a sacred institution that must be shielded from political shenanigans. It is not a tool to be bullied into submission. We insist on sanity, dignity, and unwavering respect for the rule of law.”
He also stated that Adelegbe never participated in nor won the primaries of May 16, alleging that he held parallel primaries in his ward in Ose Local Government Area.
He described how his name ended up with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as “the eighth wonder of the world,” maintaining that its demystification is the solemn duty of the judiciary he seeks to tarnish.
According to the statement, the anomaly has been corrected by the lower court and the Court of Appeal for the preservation of law and order and to strengthen the nation’s evolving democracy, noting that the world is beaming its searchlight on Africa’s most populous nation and largest democracy.
Arobo reiterated that the overwhelming mandate freely given to him by party members across Owo and Ose is sacred and that he expected a measure of decency from “an outgoing representative who enjoyed uninterrupted support for eight years, support made possible by the hard work of party faithfuls who continuously cried marginalization under Hon. Adelegbe.”
He added that “the support has now been withdrawn by the same people,” adding that his campaign remains rooted in the determination to change the status quo and deliver the greater good for the people of Owo-Ose Federal Constituency.
“The judiciary will not be desecrated on our watch. History will record those who chose to attack its foundations rather than accept the verdict of the people.”
