Kwara Police nab physically challenged arms runner for criminals

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old physically challenged Joseph Adeoye, and another suspect, Issa Fatai, 35, over alleged illegal possession and attempted purchase of a locally made pistol.

The arrests were among several criminal cases presented by the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, at a press briefing on Tuesday.

According to Ojo, police operatives intercepted Adeoye at a social spot at Oja-tuntun Market during a surveillance operation and recovered a locally made, cut-to-size pistol from him.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Fatai, who was allegedly identified as the intended buyer of the firearm.

The police commissioner said both suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the transaction during interrogation.

“The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations,” Ojo said

According to Ojo, the arrests were part of the command’s intensified efforts to tackle illegal firearms possession, kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across Kwara State.

Also, the Command arrested two men: Kamalden Lukmon and AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim allegedly with two severed human hands.

The suspects were arrested last Thursday at about 4:pm during a police operation, while the recovered body parts have prompted an investigation into their origin and the circumstances surrounding them.

According to him, the suspects also alleged that a vigilante member, identified as Abdulraf Apata, handed the body parts to them.

Ojo said the police were investigating the claims to establish the facts and determine whether other individuals were involved in the incident.

“The two suspects are currently in our custody at the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), while investigations continue to establish the identity of the possible victim, determine the circumstances surrounding the death and bring anyone found culpable to justice,” he said.

In a related development, the command announced the arrest of three suspects over the alleged exhumation of graves and removal of human heads at a cemetery in Omupo, Kwara State.

Ojo said the incident came to light in May 2026 when members of the community visited the cemetery to bury a corpse only to discovered that some graves had been dug up, with the heads of corpses missing.

He said police intelligence led to the arrest of Abu Jimoh and Ayo Jimoh on October 8, at about 5am, while they were allegedly digging graves in the same cemetery.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and named a herbalist, Mukaila Bello, as their patron.

In another development, the command arrested Abubakar Usman, also known as Jaye, a wanted suspect linked to kidnappings in Oke-Ode and Oro-Ago, as well as the killing some members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
