The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Idowu Ashafa, for allegedly being in possession of human parts exhumed from a grave at Ido Itekun Village, Igbesa, for ritual purposes.
The suspect was intercepted and found with a nylon bag containing fresh human head, two human palms, and other human parts.
He was arrested during routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan Owolabi.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Babaseyi said that the tools used by the suspect to carry out the crime had been recovered, and the scene was visited for documentation.
He said, “Operatives of the Igbesa Division, under the supervision of the Area Commander, ACP Folashade Tanaruno, arrested a 43-year-old male suspect, Idowu Ashafa, for unlawful possession of human parts and suspected ritual activities.
“The arrest was made in the early hours of April 17, 2026, during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan K. Owolabi, where the suspect was intercepted in possession of a fresh human head, two human palms, and other human remains concealed in a nylon bag.”
“The instrument used in committing the act was recovered, while the scene was visited and documented.” he added
The Police Spokesperson noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and likely prosecution.
He assured the members of public of the command’s commitment to flush out criminals from the state, charging the residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
