The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in two separate cases involving the alleged killing of a man at a barbing salon in Ikire and the exhumation and mutilation of a young woman’s corpse in Iwo.
In the Ikire incident, three suspects were arrested over the alleged murder of Seun Ajayi, who was reportedly attacked and macheted to death while having his hair cut at a salon in the Oja-Ale area of the town.
The suspects were identified as Nurudeen Ademakinwa, 30, also known as Igboya Aye-nuru; Agboluaje Usman, 23; and Awoniran Toheeb, 20.
The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the incident occurred on October 3, 2026.
According to the statement, the complainant reported at the Ikire Divisional Police Headquarters at about 7.30 p.m. that he and Ajayi were at the salon at about 6:00p.m. when a group of hoodlums, allegedly led by Ademakinwa, attacked them with dangerous weapons.
While Ajayi was allegedly macheted to death, his friend managed to escape.
The police said an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of the three suspects on October 5.
An axe, two double-edged knives and three Android phones were recovered from them.
The command further alleged that Ademakinwa had sent threatening voice messages to some residents of Wasimi, warning them to leave the community or face the consequences. He was also linked by the police to the killing of two passers-by during an attack on officers attached to the Ikire Division on August 24.
In a separate incident in Iwo, the police arrested a 42-year-old man, Babalola Saheed, over the alleged exhumation and mutilation of the corpse of 22-year-old Rukibat Babatunde.
Ojelabi said the deceased’s father reported her death following a brief illness on October 12. She was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic rites at Olomo’s Compound in the Feesun area of Iwo.
However, the family was reportedly devastated to discover at about 2:00 a.m. that the grave had been dug up and the deceased’s head and left arm severed.
Police investigations led to Saheed’s arrest.
The command said the severed body parts had been recovered and handed over to the deceased’s father for reburial. A cutlass allegedly used in the incident was also recovered.
The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest two other suspects who fled.
Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the alleged acts and assured residents that investigations would be pursued to ensure those responsible were brought to justice.
The command said all four arrested suspects would be charged in court after investigations were concluded. It also urged members of the public with useful information on the Iwo incident to contact the nearest police station.
