Coach Nazzy speaks on building personal brand online, balancing motherhood

Nigerian digital content creator, Chinaza Joy Osigwe, known as Coach Nazzy

Nigerian digital content creator and entrepreneur, Chinaza Joy Osigwe, popularly known as Coach Nazzy, has spoken about her journey into content creation, turning social media influence into business opportunities and balancing motherhood with her professional ambitions.

Osigwe, who has over 700,000 followers on TikTok, said building a successful personal brand required consistency, patience, authenticity and a willingness to keep working even when results were not immediate.

In an interview with The Guardian, she encouraged young women seeking financial independence to start with the resources available to them, develop their skills and remain committed to their goals.

“My advice is to start with what you have. You don’t need expensive equipment or a large amount of money before you begin creating content.

“Identify something you’re passionate about and develop your skills around it.

“Be consistent, understand your audience, and don’t expect overnight success,” she said.

Osigwe explained that her interest in building a successful career predated her popularity on social media, noting that she had always wanted to become financially independent and provide a comfortable life for herself and her family.

She holds a Higher National Diploma in Biochemistry from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri.

According to her, social media eventually provided a platform through which she could pursue her ambitions and build something meaningful for herself.

“Before social media brought me recognition, I was still the same ambitious and determined woman I am today. I’ve always wanted to be successful, financially independent, and able to provide a comfortable life for myself and my family,” she said.

The content creator said one of the major challenges she encountered at the beginning of her journey was getting people to notice her work and building an audience.

She said, “Building an audience requires patience, consistency, and the ability to keep going even when your efforts aren’t producing immediate results. I also had to learn how to handle criticism because social media exposes you to different opinions.

“What kept me motivated was my determination to succeed. I understood that building something meaningful takes time, and I wasn’t willing to give up simply because things weren’t moving as quickly as I wanted,” she added.

Turning social media influence into business

With a following of more than 700,000 on TikTok, Osigwe said she gradually realised that her online presence could become a source of income when opportunities to collaborate with brands and promote businesses began to emerge.

She said the growth of her audience helped her understand the commercial value of her platform and encouraged her to approach content creation more professionally.

“I realised that social media could become a source of income when I began seeing opportunities to collaborate with brands and promote businesses through my platform.

“As my audience grew, I understood that businesses were interested in reaching the people who followed me,” she said.

Osigwe said her content focuses mainly on online entertainment, gaming-related content, lifestyle and engaging with her audience.

“I pay attention to the content people engage with, the questions they ask, and the feedback they give. I also believe that being authentic is important. People follow you because they connect with your personality, so I try to maintain that connection while creating content that interests them.”

The entrepreneur advised aspiring female content creators against comparing their progress with that of others or accepting every business opportunity in pursuit of popularity.

According to her, creators should understand their value, establish boundaries and work with brands that align with their personal standards.

“Everyone grows at a different pace, and trying to copy someone else’s lifestyle can create unnecessary pressure,” she said.

“Above all, don’t sacrifice your self-respect or peace of mind just to become popular.”

Balancing motherhood and professional ambitions

Osigwe, who is a wife and mother, said balancing family responsibilities with content creation and entrepreneurship required planning, patience and the ability to prioritise competing demands.

She described her daughter as an important part of her life, adding that she remained committed to being present for her family while pursuing her professional goals.

“My daughter is a very important part of my life, and I always want to be present for her. At the same time, I have personal ambitions and professional responsibilities.

“I try to organise my schedule around what needs my attention most and make time for both my family and my work,” she said.

Osigwe explained that her daily routine often involved caring for her daughter, planning content, communicating with brands and business partners, and engaging with her audience.

She said some days were more demanding than others, requiring her to adjust her work schedule to accommodate family responsibilities.

The content creator added that motherhood had taught her patience, strength and the importance of managing her time effectively.

She maintained that becoming a mother should not mean abandoning personal ambitions, noting that women could remain committed to their families while continuing to pursue their careers.

“I believe becoming a mother shouldn’t mean giving up on your dreams. You can love your family deeply and still pursue your ambitions,” she said.

According to her, success does not necessarily mean working constantly, as there are times when family responsibilities and personal rest must take priority.

She said learning to recognise when to step back from work and return when she could give her responsibilities the necessary attention had become an important part of managing her daily life.

Looking beyond social media popularity

Looking ahead, Osigwe said she hoped to expand her personal brand, pursue more business opportunities and collaborate with reputable brands.

She also expressed interest in exploring opportunities beyond social media and building ventures that would remain valuable over the long term.

“For me, success isn’t just about money or popularity. It’s also about having peace of mind, financial stability, and the freedom to make decisions about my future,” she said.

Osigwe encouraged young women who lacked confidence, resources or support to begin pursuing their ambitions without waiting for perfect conditions.

She said women should be willing to start small, learn from their mistakes and remain confident in their abilities, even when people around them did not immediately understand their goals.

“I want young women to understand that they are capable of achieving more than they sometimes believe.

“You don’t have to come from a wealthy background or have everything figured out before you begin pursuing your dreams,” she said.

Osigwe urged women to develop their skills, work hard and remain consistent, expressing hope that her experience would encourage others to believe in their ambitions.

“I hope my journey encourages other women to believe that their dreams are valid and worth pursuing,” she said.
