UK travel advisory places Taraba under essential-travel restrictions

The United Kingdom Government‘s travel advisory on Nigeria has identified Taraba State among locations where travel is permitted for essential purposes, a development the re-election campaign council of Governor Agbu Kefas says reflects improvements in the state’s security situation.

The advisory, which highlights security concerns across several parts of Nigeria, including the North-East, reportedly places Taraba under essential-travel restrictions rather than a blanket warning against all travel.

Reacting to the development, the Agbu Kefas re-election Campaign Council described the advisory as an encouraging sign of the state’s security efforts under the governor’s administration.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the council, through its Director of Media and Strategic Communication, Emmanuel Bello, said the development could help strengthen public confidence, encourage tourism and attract investment to the state.

The council said Taraba had faced significant security challenges, including kidnapping and banditry, before Kefas assumed office, adding that the situation had affected residents’ daily activities and discouraged travel to some communities.

According to the council, some residents were forced to leave their homes because of security concerns, while travellers from Abuja and other locations often relied on heavy security arrangements.

It attributed what it described as improvements in the state’s security situation to the governor’s investments in the sector, sustained security operations and efforts to address emerging threats.
“Governor Kefas understands that security is fundamental to development.

Without peace, businesses cannot thrive, investors will hesitate, tourism will suffer and communities cannot reach their full potential,” the statement said.

The campaign council added that the administration had prioritised the protection of lives and property, expressing optimism that sustained security efforts would further improve confidence in Taraba’s economic and investment prospects.

It said the UK advisory was an encouraging development for people considering travel to the state for essential purposes, while stressing the need to maintain ongoing efforts to address security concerns.

The council, however, acknowledged that some parts of Taraba remained vulnerable to occasional communal clashes and other security incidents.

Despite these challenges, it maintained that the administration’s security initiatives had produced meaningful improvements, adding that the governor remained committed to addressing outstanding threats.

The council further described peace and stability as important considerations in assessing the administration’s performance and development agenda.
