Viral assault video prompts Ogun police probe

Ogun State Police Command

The Ogun State Police Command has summoned four officers over a viral video showing police operatives assaulting a young man in Ijagba, Sango-Ota, following public outrage over the incident.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, ordered the officers to report to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further action.

Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the officers involved had been identified and that action would be taken in line with established procedures.

The video circulating on social media shows police personnel pinning the young man to the ground before handcuffing him.

A voice accompanying the footage alleged that the young man was arrested for wearing camouflage shorts and questioned the officers’ treatment of him.

The footage triggered public criticism of the officers’ conduct.

“The command remains committed to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing,” Babaseyi said.

He added that the four officers were already on their way to the command headquarters, promising further updates as the situation develops.
