The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed more than 25 compactor trucks and sanitation personnel to clear accumulated waste across several streets in Oshodi-Isolo Local Council.
The week-long intervention is aimed at clearing waste backlogs, improving environmental sanitation and strengthening waste collection arrangements in the affected communities.
The exercise, coordinated by LAWMA management staff, is being supported by the Supervisor for Health in Oshodi-Isolo Local Council.
Advocacy activities are also being conducted alongside the evacuation to encourage residents to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and participate actively in keeping their communities clean.
LAWMA urged residents to cooperate with their registered Private Sector Participation operators by properly packaging their waste and adhering to agreed collection schedules.
The authority stressed that the evacuation exercise alone would not guarantee lasting results without regular waste collection, proper disposal and effective monitoring to prevent fresh waste build-ups.
It also called for stronger community participation and collaboration with local government authorities to sustain the gains of the intervention.
LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to continued waste evacuation, public sensitisation and improved service delivery as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
