A fire outbreak has razed 15 shops in Oyo State, with no casualties recorded.
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, following a distress call received at 4:34 a.m. from one SFS Lawal, who alerted the agency to the fire at the affected shops.
According to the agency, a firefighting crew led by an Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent promptly mobilised to the scene.
On arrival, the firefighters discovered that 15 out of a row of 44 shops had been engulfed by flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected premises.
The crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading beyond the area where it was first encountered.
The agency said the fire was curtailed without serious damage to the affected shops, while no casualty was recorded.
It attributed the incident to an electrical surge, with faulty electrical wiring suspected as the cause.
The firefighting crew returned safely to its station at 6:40 a.m. after the operation.
The Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr. Moroof Akinwande, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks.
He stressed the importance of installing and maintaining functional fire extinguishers in commercial buildings, shops and homes to enable occupants to tackle fires at their early stages.
