Four passengers sustained multiple fractures in a road crash involving a Toyota Highlander and a commercial Mazda bus at Otedola, inward Berger, near Jubilee Gate, Lagos, during the morning rush hour.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the injured passengers were rescued by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll Gate for treatment.
According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the crash occurred on the main carriageway, prompting an emergency response by traffic management and medical personnel.
LASTMA operatives and LASAMBUS officials worked together to rescue the victims and control traffic around the scene to prevent further accidents.
The Isheri Police Division also deployed personnel to provide security during the rescue and recovery operations.
The agency said its operatives apprehended the two drivers involved in the collision and handed them over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution. The vehicles were also transferred to the relevant security authorities for further investigation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASAMBUS and the police for their swift response and cooperation in managing the incident.
Bakare-Oki said prompt emergency intervention and collaboration among relevant agencies were essential to reducing the consequences of road crashes, particularly on busy routes during peak traffic periods.
He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and remain focused while driving to prevent avoidable accidents.
The agency reiterated its commitment to strengthening emergency response operations, improving traffic surveillance and enforcing road safety regulations across Lagos State.
